WMS eighth graders thought the district's communications team was just taking photos of math class. Then a Chargers player walked through the door to surprise teacher Brandy Garcia, Wiseburn USD's 2026 Teacher of the Year, with a Mazda Community Legends Honor and $10,000 for her classroom.

Wiseburn Middle School kicked off the Dolphin Community Project on Friday, Sept. 25, with student assemblies and a PTSA Community Coffee for families, both led by Tzedek America. Students and parents explored the same six ideas, beginning with the difference between what we mean to say and how our words or actions affect someone else, so the conversation can continue at home.

Wiseburn is proud to celebrate Brandy Garcia, 8th grade math teacher at WMS, who represented our district at the annual Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year Awards on September 25. Brandy was named the Wiseburn USD 2026 Certificated Employee of the Year for her dedication to students, leadership, and lasting impact.

Report cards look different this year. Some stories come full circle in the most meaningful ways. Angeline Cuevas’ journey is one of them. After attending Wiseburn Middle School, Angeline went on to graduate from Da Vinci Design in the Class of 2020. She grew up in classrooms shaped by collaboration, creativity, and connection. Today, she stands on the other side of the desk—as a passionate Core 4 Teacher at Da Vinci Connect TK-8—bringing those same values to a new generation of students.

Starting during the 2026-27 school year, Wiseburn Unified School District is beginning a thoughtful transition from traditional letter grading to a Standards-Based Grading system. Join us virtually on September 8 from 5 to 6:30 PM to learn more about the new approach, preview the Achievement Report, and get answers to your questions.
